Explore the intricate anatomy and biomechanics of the elbow and use this to apply rehab principles to optimize functional outcomes for lateral and medial-sided elbow injury. This webinar also covers evaluation and treatment of cubital tunnel and manual techniques to improve elbow flexion and extension in those stubborn post-traumatic elbow patients.

• Anatomy and pathoanatomy of the elbow complex
• Bony surface anatomy of the elbow
• Lateral-sided elbow issues (PLRI rehab)
• Medial-sided elbow issues (MCL rehab)
• Soft tissue considerations: Cubital Tunnel Syndrome
• Manual therapy techniques to address stiffness with elbow flexion and extension

Objectives:

1. Integrate knowledge of the biomechanics of the elbow and forearm to apply to rehab principles to optimize functional outcomes.
2. Through the use of surface anatomy, distinguish key bony and soft tissue structures to appreciate various fracture patterns.
3. Develop treatment plans based on the lateral and medial-sided elbow injury, including the protected position for the orthosis as well as safe ranges to perform motion with exercise progression.
4. Perform examination and treatment techniques to address cubital tunnel syndrome, which is a common consequence of edema and trauma to the elbow.
5. Apply manual therapy techniques to address limitations with elbow flexion and extension, which is a common occurrence following fracture.

Presenter Bio:

Ann Porretto-Loehrke is a skilled clinician and dynamic instructor. She is the therapy manager of a large department at the Hand to Shoulder Center. Ann is a Certified Hand Therapist (CHT) and a Certified Orthopedic Manual Therapist (COMT) for treatment of the upper quadrant through the International Academy of Orthopedic Medicine (IAOM). She has extensive training in the evaluation and treatment of the upper quadrant. Ann completed a postprofessional Doctorate in Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from Drexel University with a specialty in hand and upper quarter rehabilitation. Most recently, Ann has become certified in dry needling through Myopain Seminars as a Certified Myofascial Trigger Point Therapist (CMTPT). Ann also served as the Northeast District chair for the Wisconsin Physical Therapy Association from 2004 to 2008. She is a lead instructor who, through IAOM, developed the Hand & Upper Extremity Track, a set of six manual therapy courses designed specifically for hand and upper extremity specialists. Ann has presented at American Society of Hand Therapists (ASHT) annual conferences, the Canadian Hand Conference, The Philadelphia Meeting, and the Teton Hand and Upper Extremity Conference.
