2026 Custom Orthotic Fabrication Course

Contact Hours: 7 (Does not quality for CBOT HTC hours but qualifies for CBOT general hours, HTCC category A, and PTBC.)


Learning Objectives:

  1. Course participants will demonstrate knowledge of practical application of orthoses.
  2. Course participants will demonstrate the ability to fabricate several custom orthoses.
  3. Course participants will identify indications / contraindications of the orthoses fabricated during the course.

Course description:

This is an entry to intermediate "hands-on" lab-intensive course designed to improve orthotic fabrication skills for any therapist who is responsible for custom orthotic fabrication. Type of orthoses introduced during this course are static and static progressive. Lab assistants will be available to guide and provide assistance throughout the course to facilitate participants learning experience.


Agenda:

07:30 - 08:00 - Registration

08:00 - 10:00 - Instruction and fabrication of static progressive single digit flexion orthotic.

10:00 - 10:15 - Break

10:15 - 12:15 - Instruction and fabrication of static progressive thumb MCPJ flexion orthotic.

12:15 - 13:45 - Lunch and learn with Delta Cast fabricating functional thumb spica cast (lunch sponsored by Essity).

13:45 - 15:00 - Review of relative motion concept, algorithm and fabrication tips; and fabrication of relative motion extension and relative motion flexion orthotic.

15:00 - 15:15 - Wrap up / discussion / clean up.
